Care and Maintenance

 Concrete is an amazing material; strong, reliable, versatile. It wears beautifully over time and use, however concrete is not indestructible. Like anything of value, it requires a little care and attention, but there is no need for pampering.

Our technologically advanced concrete is delivered with a hand crafted sealed finish that requires very little maintenance as long as it is not neglected. Our sealing process penetrates the surface to protect from within and then forms a protective barrier on the surface to protect from without.

Concrete is similar to natural stone (such as granite) and should be treated similarly. As such, it can chip if struck with hard objects, so take care with cast iron pots and pans, anvils, and sledge hammers. If needed, minor scratches can be lightly sanded out and/or filled with wax when needed.

Routine Care and Maintenance-

- Do not place hot pans or dishes (above 300°F) directly on the concrete surface. Use hot pads or trivets.

- Stain resistance to water-based spills, oils, food items, etc. is excellent. Our sealer is etch-resistant to acidic spills such as colas, citrus juices and wine because of the strong surface barrier. However, it is prudent to wipe up spills in a timely manner and use coasters when you can.

- Do not cut directly on countertops; use cutting boards. This is bad for both your knives and your concrete. And try to avoid dragging heavy or sharp objects across the countertop as this can also scratch the finish. Minor scratches can be removed with a non-abrasive "Scotch-Brite" pad or a high grit (600+) sand paper.

- Again, to save your finish, please use a cutting board rather than the countertop. We make them all the time of all shapes and sizes and would be happy to make you one that perfectly compliments your kitchen.

- Never use abrasive cleaners (such as Comet) or steel wool.

- All of out concrete leaves the shop with a coat of wax. Reapplying once a year (or when needed) will keep the surface looking fresh. We use the product TreWax.
